Hedgehogs Class (Age 6 weeks to 2 years)

The baby department at Springboard Nursery is tailored to suit the youngest members of the nursery. Our curriculum is designed to stimulate gently through an appropriate mix of activities, talk, music, play and interaction.

We aim to provide a relaxed and friendly environment, focusing on individual care for children and their families.

Our staff will encourage your child to interact as a group and on a 1:1 basis to enhance their learning and development and above all have fun! Staff will liaise with you and as we work closely as a team at Springboard, all staff will know your baby.

We follow the Scottish Government Guidelines called Birth to Three: Supporting Our Youngest Children. These guidelines contain three key features: Relationships, Responsive Care and Respect and believes‘that babies and young children need to feel loved, secure, happy and cared for in a safe and healthy environments.

Within the department we provide a peaceful and quiet room for babies who need a nap during their busy day.

You can bring along your own breast milk or formula milk (made up), which will be stored at the correct temperature.

Springboard Nursery provides all the nappies and baby care items for your baby at an inclusive price.

Otters Class (Age 2 to 3 years)

Our toddlers room provides an opportunity for the children to experience an interesting and stimulating day that is carefully planned and co-ordinated to ensure variety.

We encourage the children to learn at their own pace and nurture their individual talents and skills. We support the children as they learn to play alongside others and share the resources.  Potty training will be provided.

The children will have the opportunity to take part in a wide selection of art and craft activities. They can participate in free-play in the home corner, play with small world toys or join in a tabletop activity. Stories are read often throughout the day and there is plenty of opportunity to be involved in music related activities.

After lunch we have a quiet period where the children can rest in their own personal ‘snuggle sack’ before the start of the afternoon session.

Squirrels Class (Age 3 to 4 years)
Badgers Class (Age 4 to 5 years)

In our ante-pre and pre-school rooms we feel that it is important to allow the children to explore their own environment, providing them with the opportunity to continue to learn through play. They are also gently guided through a well planned programme of activities that extend and consolidate already learned skills whilst allowing the acquisition of new ones.

The children regularly explore the grounds and surrounding area including trips to the beach and village.

The nursery complies with the new Scottish Curriculum For Excellence.  To enable us to develop these attibutes in the children we provide learning opportunities covering eight curricular areas of:

Literacy and English

Numeracy and Mathematics

Health and Wellbeing

Expressive Arts

Science

Religious and Moral Education

Social Studies

Technologies

To facilitate learning in these areas we plan activities to ensure the children receive the best quality of learning. We take into account the children’s individual needs as well as encouraging them to work together as a group.

A portfolio of their work is kept along with our observations and parents/carers are able to access these at any time should they wish to discuss their child’s progress.

At Springboard we like to promote the feeling that learning is exciting and fun for both children and adults. We have an ‘open door’ policy and communicate regularly with parents/carers, which promotes a strong partnership leading to your child getting the most out of learning in their early years.

At the end of the year a short report will be complied detailing their achievements. Parents are encouraged to provide feedback, which can be discussed at parents evening. Prior to your child commencing school a copy of their report will be forwarded to the Primary 1 teacher.

Springboard Nursery works in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council to provide funding towards the cost of sessions. Further information is available from the nursery.
